When it comes to software licensing, most of the training and tools you will find concentrate on large corporations. Software Licensing for Small Businesses 101 is designed with the small business in mind. The lessons are designed to take less than 10 minutes each.  After completing these lessons we hope to have provided you enough information to setup a basic software license management policy for your business.

Section 1: Software Licensing

Lesson 1: What is a Software License? - In the first lesson we break down the most critical components of a license, and the four things you can do that will keep you in compliance on most licenses. At the end of the lesson we will discuss several special licenses, and how they are different from what you might be used to.

Lesson 2: What is Illegal Software - In this lesson we discuss common ways businesses end up out of licensing compliance and the risks illegal software can bring.

 

Section 2: Protecting Your Company

Lesson 3: Educate Your Employees - Education is important, and not necessarily expensive. In this lesson we will introduce the Employee Software Policy and demonstrate how it can be beneficial.

Lesson 4: Track Your Licensing - In this lesson we will take our first look at assessing your licensing and needs. We will also introduce some affordable tools you can use to help. If you are simply reading this to find out about license tracking methods, this is where you want to start.

Lesson 5: Perform Internal Software Audits - Tracking your software gives you a picture of what you think you have loaded on your computers. Auditing your computers lets you know what is actually there.

Lesson 6: Getting Legal doesn't necessarily mean Spending Money - With your tracking in hand and your audit information, it is now time to make sure you are legal. That doesn't necessarily mean spending money either. This is where we will discuss the options

Lesson 7: Ongoing Protection - Managing software licensing isn't just a one time thing. Here we discuss ways you can continue your protection without a lot of work.
